Ringworm is transmissible to humans. It is frequently detected in domestic animals and cats, the latter remaining the primary source of contamination for humans.
Ringworm is extremely contagious. It is transmitted by the passage of fungal spores from one animal to another or from an animal to humans.
The medical diagnosis of ringworm can be made by analyzing the coat with a Wood's lamp (the hairs carry spores which appear fluorescent on examination).
